About

Hi, I'm
Josh.

I'm Josh, a graphic designer based in Hartlepool. I make bold, memorable design for people who'd rather be noticed than blend in.

I fell in love with graphic design at GCSE and decided there and then it was what I wanted to do. I worked hard through school to get into college, then went from college to university in the middle of the pandemic, where I put nearly all of my time into getting better at this. My course leader told the whole room that nobody on it would get a first, that the course was a different beast. My 1:1 says otherwise.

I came out with a First-Class BA (Hons) in Graphic Design from New College Durham and went straight into studio work at TeesPrint. That meant a stack of client projects, tight deadlines and learning fast, mostly by listening properly to what people actually needed from a brief.

Freelance has taken me further since. I've built identities and campaigns for esports teams, football clubs, a gaming bar and independent publishers, from tournament branding for Team Hong Kong and KASA Esports to printed club booklets. Different briefs, same job: take what someone is trying to say and turn it into visuals that get results. I bring creativity, adaptability and a genuine love of the craft to every project I take on.

Your next favourite designer, hopefully.

Off the clock

More than just your next favourite designer

Turns out I'm half decent at a few other things too, and the nerdiness about design has never once worn off. Here's the short version.

Josh in his team jersey at a gaming tournament

Guitar, sort of

I can play. I know two songs, neither of them is Wonderwall, and one of them is the Buddy Holly riff because I'm cool like that.

Gamer, properly

I've competed in a handful of tournaments with my team, jersey and all. Turns out designing for esports is easier when you actually play.

Projects that grow

Crown Cup started life as a university brief of mine and ended up an international tournament identity. Still feels a bit mad to say out loud.

How I work

01

Brief & discovery

First I want to know what the work actually has to do, who it's talking to and where it will end up. Then I can give you something useful.

02

Concepts & iteration

I show ideas early and often. Each round gets explained, we refine it together and I keep pushing until it lands. No long silence and a big reveal at the end.

03

Delivery & guidelines

You get the final files, the templates and a clear set of guidelines, so the brand still looks right once it's out of my hands.

In their words

Work with me →

PPG Industries

“Josh was great at turning my words quickly into a brand-compliant design, which was printed onto small leaflets to help advertise the PPG undergraduate placement scheme. He was immensely patient and helped me consider alternative ideas to display the information more clearly. Myself and my colleagues were happy with the final designs.”
Jack Heywood · Laboratory Technician, PPG Industries Inc

KASA Esports

“The final product truly speaks for itself. It's clear Josh took the time to understand our brand and vision, referencing past brand guidelines and then elevating them with fresh, creative ideas. He kept me updated at every stage, sharing each iteration and always open to adjustments. Since launching, I've had countless compliments from friends in the industry.”
Xiorr · CEO, KASA Esports

Kader Football Club

“From start to finish the process was smooth, professional and incredibly creative. JJW Designs completely understood our vision and transformed it into a vibrant, engaging booklet that exceeded our expectations. The attention to detail was remarkable, and we received so many positive comments from parents and club members.”
Martin McGovern · Director, Kader Football Club

Let's make something loud

Start a project

Branding, social content, event graphics or something else entirely, send the brief and I'll come back with ideas.
